As promised, there was news of a new game waiting for gamers at Team Ninja’s press conference at the Tokyo Game Show 2012.

Keiji Inafune, who is well-known as the illustrator and co-designer of the Mega-man character, revealed the full name of the game that had been teased a week ago

The game is titled Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z and just as the title suggests, it is indeed a spin-off of the actual Ninja Gaiden game.

Inafune had hinted earlier this week that the latest project will be featuring ninjas and zombies, a mix that came off as pretty exciting. The game seemed like it would offer players an opportunity to get their hands on a cool ninja blade and slash their way through armies of un-dead assailants.

However, some additional details regarding the upcoming title were shared with the attendees at the gaming event in Tokyo.

Shedding some light on the theme of the game, Inafune conceded that the game would revolve around Yaiba, an un-dead ninja who is out to seek vengeance, hunting down the man who had stripped him of his life. This target is none other than the ninja that we have all come to know and grow fond of over the years, Ryu Hayabusa, the main protagonist in the Ninja Gaiden franchise.

The stage seems to be set for a bloody encounter between the zombie and the ninja and it would indeed be interesting to see how the makers of the game give depth to the character of Yaiba.

The game is being developed through a joint collaboration of Inafune’s studio Comcept, Spark Unlimited and of course Team Ninja.

Even though no further detail was dished out during the press conference, it is safe to assume that the gameplay would be fast and satisfying.

The Ninja Gaiden franchise had earned itself quite a reputation after the first-two games went on to earn a great deal of critical as well as commercial success.

The third title in the series, however, came off as a huge disappointment for the fans. Everything from the presentation to the featured gameplay fell short of the expectations and therefore the game is regarded as one of the worst games to come out in recent years by the fans of the franchise.

Team Ninja is expected to have learnt from its mistakes and ensure that the new project is dealt with in the same manner as the first-two games in the franchise since they went down really well with the gamers, earning their place among the best games for the current-generation consoles.

Neither Inafune nor any of the other developer has yet revealed whether the upcoming Ninja Gaiden spin-off will be for the current-generation consoles of if it will be out for the new wave of hardware that will start hitting the market starting this November.
