David Rutter, the head of the team developing EA Sports’ FIFA series, believes that FIFA 12 did become predictable at one point and they plan on changing that for FIFA 13.

FIFA 12 has been hailed as perhaps the most immersive, deep and rewarding football simulation experience in history and the game has the review scores, fan base and sales records to support that claim. However, as with anything, there was a section of fans who found reasons to complain about the game, a majority of which were justified.

David Rutter, the man who has turned the FIFA series’ fortunes around, stated that he enjoyed the latest game the most and spent more time playing FIFA 12 than any other games in the series, although he did admit that the game became predictable at certain points.

He said, “I think it’s a brilliant game. I’ve probably put more hours into FIFA 12 than any of the previous ones based purely on the fact I’ve really enjoyed it. I think by fun, or indeed a lack of it, then maybe it could become somewhat predictable where you could tell what the outcome would be in certain situations.”

However, Rutter also pointed out that the issues in FIFA 12 were being worked on and the new features that FIFA 13 was focused on would remove that element of predictability that some players complained about.

He said, “In FIFA 13, when we talk about that battle for possession – and freedom of creativity in attack combining to create this unpredictable game.”

FIFA 13 has high expectations to live up to especially due to the fact that FIFA 12 was such a huge success and following up that act will be a huge challenge for the development. EA Sports has been accused of repacking the same game with minimal new features and improvements and selling it to consumers.

However, FIFA 11 and FIFA 12 bucked that trend and although senior executives at EA Sports have stated that FIFA 13 will be released with enough value to warrant a repurchase, fans should expect the game to be more of an evolution than the revolution that FIFA 12 turned out to be.

David Rutter and his FIFA development team has to worry about the resurgence of the Pro Evolution Soccer series as Konami’s demo of their latest iteration of the series has impressed all those who have tried it to such an extent that many are claiming that PES 2013 could give FIFA 13 a serious run for its money.

However, it is too early to comment on the FIFA versus PES but it does seem as if the age old rivalry is set to be rekindled.
