It has been confirmed that Square Enix is working on the re-release of its ground-breaking role-playing game (RPG) Final Fantasy VII for PC.
An official website for the game has already surfaced, authenticating the news that the publisher is indeed working on it and plans on making it available for download on its online store in the not-so-distant future.
The upcoming Final Fantasy VII will offer pretty much the same experience with hardly any enhancements. However, a few extra features have been introduced to make the product a little appealing.
One of these new features is achievements. Players will have 36 achievements to unlock, which they can later compared with friends online.
The new online feature package will also comprise of a Cloud save feature, allowing players to store their save files on cloud, an online storage.
The third and arguably most interesting feature of the upcoming Final Fantasy VII re-release is what the company has termed “Character Booster.” This is the only alteration that seems to be affecting the gameplay and game progression significantly. The “Character Booster” feature will allow the players to have an increased levels of health points (HP), magic points (MP) and money (Gil). This will make it pretty convenient for the players to coast through the game in a much more beefed-up state than before.
The official website also lists the PC specs that are required to play the game. These include 32 or 64-bit Microsoft Windows XP/Vista/7, a 2GHz Processors or higher, 1GB Ram and a graphics card that is compatible with DirectX 9.
Reportedly, the upcoming Final Fantasy VII will be available in retail stores for around $12 in North American market and £7.99 in European market.
It has been nearly 12 years since the release of Final Fantasy VII for the PC, one year after it had been released on the Sony PlayStation console. Introducing ground-breaking graphics that appeared to be well-ahead of its time, along with superb gameplay and a compelling storyline, the game went on to become a colossal hit. Even today, the title is considered amongst the best video games of all time.
With the advent of new technology and arrival of high-definition (HD), the players began to request for a remake of Final Fantasy VII in HD. The current generation consoles such as Sony PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 made the fans’ desire to see their favourite instalment in the Final Fantasy franchise in better graphics grow to the extent that they kept requesting and speculating a remake of the game. Even though Square Enix has made it clear from time to time that they had no plans of doing a remake of Final Fantasy VII anytime soon, the fans still have not lost hope.
Square Enix has explicitly stated they will not revisit Final Fantasy VII until it becomes sure that the current games in the franchise live up to the brand’s reputation.
