PS3 Controller

Wishfree.com takes a look at a number of games that one can expect to release alongside the launch of Sony’s next generation console.

E3 came and passed the gaming world with neither Microsoft nor Sony making any announcements regarding their upcoming next generation consoles. Although both parties had denied they would not be showing any next-gen hardware during the show, there were many who harboured hope that at least one of the electronics giants would surprise the world.

Sadly, that did not happen, however, the lack of PS4 and Xbox 720 at this year’s show couple with the fact that Nintendo’s next-gen plans are in full swing can only mean that the PlayStation 4 and Xbox 360 will be announced next year.

Focusing on Sony and one can bet their house that the consumer electronics giant will not release the console without a strong first-party line up of content both at release as well as after the launch period in order to maintain momentum.

Metal Gear Solid 5

What we know:

The creator of the Metal Gear Solid series, Hideo Kojima, has confirmed that he has started work on the next instalment in the hugely popular series. According to an interview the game will be built on the all new Fox Engine.

The Fox Engine will allow studios to develop for multiple platforms simultaneously and this has given rise to a number of rumours regarding whether or not the game will be a PlayStation exclusive or whether it will go the way of Metal Gear Rising.

Kojima also confirmed that the game’s iconic protagonist, Solid Snake, would be making a return to the series despite the fact that he apparently met his demise at the end of the fourth game. The game’s creator also hinted that game would be set during the Allied invasion of Normandy during World War II as it was an event that was of great interest to Kojima.

Expectations

Seeing how Kojima conceded that he would be heavily involved in the development process, one can expect nothing but the classic Metal Gear Solid experience, however, the new hardware could open up a number of game changing features that could expand the game’s horizons.

Remember, this is Kojima being talked about and the developer has a knack for doing things that have not been done before in the industry, even if it is as simple as putting an in-game iPod for Snake to listen to. Pure Genius.

Likelihood

At this point in time, seeing how Kojima has only started developing the project and with the PlayStation 4 set to be released around 2014, it seems highly likely that Metal Gear Solid 5 will be a next-generation title.
