If stealth is not the way a player wishes to play then they are under no compulsion to as there are plenty of useful tips for gunplay as well.
The first is the emphasis on Headshots, although they may be tricky to start off with mastering the one-shot kill will be of great help later on in the game when the enemies carry more armour and are a real pain to take down the conventional way.
So whether it’s while on is on the move, hidden behind cover or dangling off a ledge or rope, it is important to kill with your first shot otherwise face annoying waits as the enemies suppress you. This is especially important on the harder difficulties.
In fact, whenever one is exposed it is of vital importance that they take down as many enemy soldiers as quickly as possible and not let them spread out as the AI will punish the player if that does turn out to be the case.
At the same time hand-to-hand combat is also a useful tool at one’s disposal and although it may be fun on the easier difficulty setting to run in and punch everyone’s lights out, it becomes near impossible to do so later on.
The best strategy is soften up the opposition from distance and thin them down. Fire a few rounds into each of the enemy AI you are facing and then run in for one-hit takedowns. Yes, the classic one-hit takedowns introduced in the console versions of the game are also present in Golden Abyss and it is best that players take advantage of them.
So a quick recap: Stealth should the player’s primary strategy, followed by quick kills with headshots and if that fails then taking the enemy out from a distance is a smart course of action as well and if the player is feeling rather brave than one-hit kills would work too.
The last option is great from the Very Easy to the Normal difficulty setting and can even be used in Hard but when it comes to Crushing it would be best that the player only uses the one-hit takedown when there are no more than 2-3 enemy AI left.
The trick to hand-to-hand combat is thin the enemy lines out and weaken then before going in for the quick one twos. Patience and timing are key on the hardest difficulty whereas on Easy and Very Easy the player can go all Hulk on the enemy AI and it wouldn’t matter.
