Ubisoft confirm Watch Dogs will miss Gamescom

The publisher confirms that their stunning title will not be appearing at this year’s Gamescom, much to the gaming world’s disappointment.

The game that has two Ubisoft studios working on it, Watch Dogs, will not be making the trip to Germany for Gamescom as the publisher listed the titles it would be showcasing at the event.

Both Ubisoft Montreal and Ubisoft UK are currently co-developing the ambitious title that already has rumours of a film adaptation in the works. The game premiered at this year’s E3 Press Conference in Los Angeles and blew audiences away.

Showing off impressive visuals, which many now believed are the first taste of what the next generation of consoles will boast, as well some truly compelling gameplay, Watch Dogs went on to win numerous E3 awards from multiple review sites.

The game boasted a combination of Hitman, Grand Theft Auto and Assassin’s Creed while still managing to grind out an identity for itself. The upcoming title from Ubisoft not only has the standard third-person shooter gunplay and driving but it also adds a new gameplay mechanic, hacking.

Players will be able to hack any electronic device and cause all kinds of chaos in the process. The demo showed off how players can jam phones and change traffic light signals to their advantage but a number of other options were also shown on the Heads Up Display (HUD).

Since the premiere though, the gaming world has seen nothing of the underground title although news did emerge claiming that the Watch Dogs website and forums had been hacked and user details had been compromised.

All that apart, if gamers were expecting to catch another glimpse of the title then they will have to wait a while longer. Ubisoft is set to show off a number of titles such as Far Cry 3 and Assassin’s Creed 3 during the conference but Watch Dogs will not be shown off in any way.

Far Cry 3 impressed audiences with just how impressive the visuals were and how intense the action was, as well as a bit of female nudity, which caught everyone by surprise. However, it made the headlines for all the right reasons and one can expect a lot more information on the game to emerge at Gamescom.

Assassin’s Creed 3 also left its mark with a superb CGI trailer for the game. Blowing people away with Assassin’s Creed trailers has become something of a tradition for Ubisoft as they have announced each new title in the series with a superb trailer.

Whether or not another mind-blowing trailer will be shown at Gamescom remains to be seen but one can expect more on the gameplay front when Ubisoft sets up shop in Germany.
