Despite not topping the charts in either month as the game continues to exceed Ubisoft’s expectations.

Ghost Recon Future Soldier marks the return of the iconic series, which dazzled with the launch of the Xbox 360. Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter was one of the first titles that demonstrated to the world what the current generation of consoles was capable of and did a pretty decent job of it as well.

A sequel to the game followed soon after with Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 building on the original’s success before the series took a lengthy absence. In the meantime, Ubisoft kept their Tom Clancy license active with two Rainbow 6 games. Rainbow 6 Vegas garnered quite a following for players who enjoyed the tactical shooter experience and Rainbow 6 Vegas 2 built on it as well.

It seems that Ubisoft has a tradition of making two games in the same series before take a leave of absence. It turns out that the Ghost Recon universe was waiting in the wings to re-emerge onto the scene with Future Soldier and has received generally positive reviews.

At the same time the game has been the best-selling title for the combined period of May and June, despite not finishing in the top spot of the charts for either month. While other titles have topped and faded away during the two months, Future Soldier’s sales were both consistent and persistent, resulting in the game selling more copies than any other title on any platform.

The figures surprised Ubisoft as well, who claimed that Ghost Recon Future Soldier continues to post “higher-than-expected-sales” since its release.

Ubisoft CEO, Yves Guillemot, explained that the publisher was reaping the rewards for continuing to invest in the current generation of home consoles and providing triple-A experiences for the core gaming demographic, which he believes was summed up by how many awards the studio took home following E3.

He said, “With 335 nominations and more than 160 awards at E3 2012, Ubisoft reaped the rewards of its pro-active strategy in the Core segment and demonstrated its strong comeback in this category.”

Guillemot continued, “Assassin’s Creed 3 won numerous Game of the Show awards, Far Cry 3 and Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Blacklist made a big impression at the event, and our two new brands Watchdogs and ZombiU set social networks alight.”

According to the Ubisoft executive, the company is well on its way to achieving its targets for 2012-13 and maybe even exceed them if sales continue the way have been.

The publisher was also pleased with the way Driver: San Francisco posted higher sales figures than anticipated and will be hoping the trend continues with future titles as well.
