The console has reportedly had issues of burning while charging and although Sony is looking into the issue it maintains that it is not a product malfunction.
A number of users have reported issues with Sony’s second generation portable gaming platform as a number of PlayStation Vitas have been burning while they were on charge.
A total of 31 such complaints have been lodged each reporting that their consoles burnt ‘during charging’. Of that number 23 malfunctions have taken place in Japan while the other 8 took place in other regions.
The issue does seem spread out throughout the world and the number could increase in the future if the Vita has some product malfunction. However, Sony have launched an investigation and maintain that the issue is not the result of the Vita malfunctioning and it will not be recalling the product.
A statement issued by the consumer electronics giant stated that the issue “is not related to a product malfunction and will this not result in a recall”.
To be fair 31 reported issues are not enough to warrant a recall, however, if the problem persists Sony may have to take some action. However, the consumer electronics giant claims that the issue is caused by neglect from the users instead of anything else. According to Sony the problem stems from “People having liquids or other objects inserted in the connection”.
No injuries have been reported so far, which is always a good thing and Sony is advising users to ensure there is nothing ‘alien’ in the socket where the USB charger is inserted.
The PlayStation Vita has faced a rocky start since its release with sales figures not reaching the levels that many analysts predicted, yet Sony has stated that the sales have gone according to their forecasts.
The consumer electronics giant did concede that they needed to bring more content on to the console if they wanted to see the sales figures grow. A number of titles have been announced and are currently in development, ranging from the likes of LittleBigPlanet, Assassin’s Creed: Bloodlines and Blacks Ops: Declassified.
The last two titles generated plenty of hype for the console when they were announced during Sony’s E3 Press Conference and while there is plenty of anticipation surrounding the Call of Duty, the fact that nothing apart from a screenshot has been revealed so far means that gamers are going on blind faith at the moment.
Some analysts believe that Sony need to cut the price on the console but as one could tell from their press conference and interviews with executives afterwards, the consumer electronics giant is focused on increasing sales by adding more content instead of cutting the price.
