Chen the Holy Knight is arguably one of the hardest heroes to play in Defense of the Ancients (Dota) 2. He is most commonly seen as a jungling hero that has the ability to gank lane at a relentless pace.

We will actually start off with Chen’s third skill it is most defining. It is named Holy Persuasion. At max level, you will be able to permanently take over three creeps, which more often than not would be neutral creeps. Each creep that you take over will be given a +300 hit-point (hp) boost automatically. As you can imagine, ganking with both your abilities as well as the abilities of your creeps require solid micro-management. Another very important aspect of Holy Persuasion is that you can actually use it to teleport an ally unit, be it a hero or a persuaded creep, back to the fountain. The only difference between the two is that the creeps that you control will instantly be teleported back, while allies will be teleported after a 3-second delay.

Time to get back to Chen’s first skill Penitence. It is a single-target spell that will slow down enemies by 32% as well as amplify damage dealt to them by 28%, both of which last 7 seconds. The 32% slow works well for Chen as it allows his persuaded creeps to catch up to fleeing enemies. The amplify damage mechanic is especially useful because of his second spell, which we will get to next.

Chen’s second skill is called Test of Faith. It is another single-target ability that will deal anywhere from 200-400 damage. The important thing to know about it is the fact that it does pure damage, which means it ignores magic armour completely.

Hand of God is Chen’s ultimate and is quite simple in nature. At Level 3, it will heal all allies on the map for 400 hp, while also completely healing your persuaded creeps to 100% health. This is obviously a great team fight ultimate and can potentially turn the tides of battle.

Aghanim’s Scepter can be picked up by Chen as it will decrease the cool-down of his ultimate from 120 seconds to 30, which erratically allows you to use it four times as often.

If you are good at micro-creeping, then Chen is definitely the hero for you. His support capabilities are outstanding, while he is also able to take down heroes alone, courtesy of persuaded creeps, Penitence and Test of Faith, all of which have an excellent synergy with each other. It is important not to get carried away while playing Chen as it may be tempting to take your army and chase down enemy heroes, but that is something that goes against your role.
