Puck the Faerie Dragon is an intelligence hero that is most commonly picked for the side-lanes because of his survivability, but he is a true asset in team fights and can be an absolute pain in the ass to kill.

His first spell Illusory Orb will send a magic orb 1800 units in whichever direction you choose. It will deal 280 damage to any unit it passes though. The damaging orb itself is 200 Area of Effect (AoE) and will give vision while it travels. Once you activate this skill, you will have the option to teleport to it anytime. This is a great thing for both initiation as well as escaping.

Waning Rift is Puck’s second skill and when activated, will damage and silence enemies in a 400 AoE around Puck himself. The damage of the skill is 240, while the silencing mechanic will last for 3 seconds. This skill synergises directly with the Illusory Orb as a great offensive combination.

Puck’s third skill is called Phase Shift. When he uses this skill, he will temporary shift himself out of existence, therefore avoiding any and all damage. This is an interesting skill due to the fact that you can use it both an active skill as well as auto-cast. When on auto-cast, you will block a single-target damage spell every 6 seconds. If used actively, you will shift out of existence for full 3 seconds, thereby being able to theoretically avoid many incoming spells. This, in combination with the Illusory Orb, make for a godly defence.

Puck’s ultimate is named Dream Coil. The ultimate will attach coils to any enemy caught within a 375 AoE. These units will be damaged for 200 and stun for 0.5 seconds. Now the reason this skill is so good is because once caught in the coils, for a 5-second period if enemies move beyond 600 range of the coil themselves, they will take an additional 200 damage as well as get stunned for an additional 3 seconds. Aghanim’s Scepter can be purchased by Puck. It will improve his ultimate by increasing the duration of the coil from 5 to 7 seconds as well as increased the coil break-damage from 200 to 300.

Even does Puck has a couple of abilities at his disposal that make it extremely hard to kill him, it does not necessarily mean that newbie players will be able to own with him. The key to success with Puck on both individual as well as team basis is the timing of his skills. He has a crucial role to play in team battles and therefore it is best for intermediate to advanced players to pick him. While surviving is important in Defense of the Ancients (Dota 2), it is far from the real essence of the game.
