Platinum Games and Codemasters both announce to the gaming public when they can expect Revengeance and the latest Formula One title to hit shelves.
21 seems to a popular number for video game publishers in terms of release dates as it turns out that both Metal Gear Rising Revengeance and F1 2012 will be releasing on the 21st, albeit of two completely different months in two different years.
Starting things off with Metal Gear Rising Revengeance. The hack and slash, adrenaline rush inducing title is set to hit shelves on the 21st of February, that is, the 21st of February next year, 2013.
The game has been revealed to be one of the titles Hideo Kojima, the creator of the Metal Gear Solid series, was hoping to develop using his studio’s in-house Fox Engine. However, the development of the game was handed over to Platinum games, which has been hard at work polishing the game till they could see each individual hear in the reflection.
The game follows Raiden, a character many in the gaming world will be familiar with, as he uses his non-metaphorical sword to hack and slash enemy soldiers, bots and helicopters into pieces.
Revengeance is the first Metal Gear title not to be developed by Kojima and is a far cry from the stealth based tactical espionage which the Solid series is known for.
Interestingly enough, Revengeance is set to release in a month where a number of triple-A titles are set to hit the market. EA seems to have February marked down as an important month as the publisher is set to release both Dead Space 3 and Crysis 3 during the 30 day period.
It will be interesting to see how Revengeance will hold up against arguably the best survival-horror game and visually stunning series out there.
On the other hand, Codemasters is hoping that its tradition of delivering authentic racing experiences on consoles and PCs as it plans to release F1 2012, the latest iteration of their long running series, on the 21st of September this year.
That puts the game just a month before the start of the holiday season and one has to wonder whether or not that is a smart move seeing how consumers usually wait until the November/December period before investing in new games.
However, September releases do benefit from the lack of major releases and Codemasters has been in the industry long enough to know what they are doing.
Stephen Hood, the creative director of F1 2012, explained that “the aim for the 2012 game is to make more of a complete Formula One experience.”
This includes the new Young Driver Test feature as well as a number of other new features as well.
