Book of Spells to retail for $39.99

Sony’s latest peripheral to make use of the PlayStation Move and PlayStation Eye as Wonderbook: Book of Spells is set for release in the United States on the 13th of November.

Revealed during Sony’s E3 Press Conference, Wonderbook, received mixed reactions from the crowd and the gaming public. The accessory was obviously aimed at younger audiences and many questioned whether or not it warranted such a lengthy presentation.

Nonetheless, the potential of the add-on did excite many as it would add a new segment to the market that Sony would cater to. The demo shown off at E3 was Book of Spells, which was written by J.K. Rowling, the author of the Harry Potter books.

The game, or rather book, is set in the same universe and players will learn to perform spells using their PlayStation Move controllers, which will double as wands in the game.

The United States will be getting the game in November, just in time for the Holiday season and the hectic Christmas Shopping period. It would make an attractive gift for families looking to get their children or nieces and nephews something video game related but not a video game.

That point is something Fergal Gara, the head of PlayStation’s UK division, is hoping for. According to him Sony expects the game to the best-selling first-party game on the PlayStation 3 console during the Holiday season and sometime beyond it.

As for specifics, Wonderbook: Book of Spells will retail for $39.99. however, whether that includes the book peripheral or just the game is something that has been the cause of some confusion in the market at the moment.

At the same time, Sony seems to want to move a few of its PlayStation Move and PlayStation Eyes as well, with a bundle including the game, Move controller and camera costing $79.99 altogether,

Sony has not as yet given any release date for the game or any news of a bundle making its way to the United Kingdom, although one can rest assured that news relating to that will be made available soon by the consumer electronics giant.

There have been reports of a PlayStation 3 bundle with the game and controllers being prepared for the United Kingdom. We will have more on that story whenever it breaks.

One has to wonder whether Sony has done enough in terms of marketing and promoting Wonderbook enough to get the target market excited about their product but one can expect an extensive multimedia campaign to be launched in the build-up to its release.

In the meantime there are a few trailers one can go through if they want to find out more about Wonderbook and the Book of Spells.
