PART 1: The latest demo released by Capcom may initially seem to give gamers just a taste of the upcoming game, but it also shows the publishers ambition for the game as well.
If anyone has not played the demo for Resident Evil 6 then we would strongly urge them to do so, whether they are going to buy the game in any case, unsure of a purchase or even if they have no plans to play the game; the demo warrants every gamers attention.
Starting things off with the demo itself, it consists of three different segments. Players can play alone or with a friend in co-op as either Leon, Chris or Jake, as well as their partners in a brief segment of the characters overall storylines. However, each segment will tell you all you need to know about the game and the direction Capcom are taking the series.
Having assembled the largest development team in the company’s history to work on the project, Capcom has put a number of their eggs in a number of baskets within the same basket.
Allow us to elaborate; Resident Evil started off as a visceral, haunting, suspense filled survival-horror experience. Ammunition was scarce, scares were aplenty and this sense of dread followed players as they opened every door.
Somewhere along the way, the developers decided they wanted more action in the game and Resident Evil 5 was a representation of that ethos. The game became less of a survival-horror title and ventured more towards the action-horror genre.
Recently, Capcom announced that they wanted the Resident Evil series to emulate the Call of Duty series, which can be summed up as a run and gun shooter where the player has plenty of bullets and even more things to shoot at. It may not be a completely accurate description but bear with us here.
Resident Evil 6 is all three of the genres, ideas and ethos mentioned above. It is not just one of them, but all of them together in the same package but still separated at the same time based on the character players chose to play as.
There is the classic Resident Evil feel that many gamers thought was lost with the fifth instalment in the series, there is the more action oriented approach as well and finally there is the new breed of Resident Evil all on the same disc.
It may just be a demo but one can clearly see what Capcom are attempting to accomplish with their game and if it works, well, it may just benefit the industry as a whole.
