Activision confirms that the PlayStation Vita entry of the Call of Duty series will not feature the popular Zombies mode but will offer something similar instead.
Treyarch tends to be the more innovative and risk-taking studio out of the two that develop and release their respective Call of Duty title every other year. The studio came up with World at War, which was a grittier, gorier game than the smooth, clean Modern Warfare games.
However, Treyarch will always be remembered for introducing the Zombies mode, which went on to be the most memorable part of Black Ops. In fact, the only reason a majority of gamers actually played Black Ops was because of the Zombies mode itself.
Fast forward a few years and Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 is set to expand on the Zombies mode even more adding a host of new options and modes to the Zombies phenomenon. On the other hand, the game’s PlayStation Vita tie-in is going for a different approach, which Activision representative Dan Amrich explained, “Declassified will offer a Hostiles Mode, which challenges you to defeat waves of enemies, but alas, those enemies are not shambling corpses.”
So there you have it folks, official confirmation that Zombies are not making their way on to the PlayStation Vita this year.
Amrich also highlighted the reasons behind the omission of what it is easily Treyarch’s biggest contribution to the video game world in recent years.
He said, “This is the first Call of Duty game on Vita, and it needs to deliver on its core strengths – arguably, multiplayer gaming with twin-stick controls in a portable format.” Before continuing, “That’s the core experience, and that simply needs to come first.”
Amrich went on to explain that the studio could have included Zombies, but with their schedule and the game’s impending release date it would be unrealistic.
“There’s always a list of things you want to do and things you need to do, and at the end of the day, realistic goals are the ones that people actually attain.”
It seems as if the major reason many Vita users were looking forward to Black Ops: Declassified will be missing but Hostiles mode will offer something for players to try their survival skills on, although one has to admit, it’s a lot more fun surviving against the undead than other people with guns.
What about the readers; has the ‘no zombies’ announcement put you off buying a copy of the game or were you never really interested in the game in the first place or are you still willing to give it a try despite the lack of the undead?
