Survival and Collector’s Edition will not be retailer specific though. Lara Croft is set to offer different goodies based on where gamers book their copy of the game.
It is now customary for one game to have multiple editions apart from the standard copy of the game. Special Editions, Collector’s Editions and Limited Editions have been a norm in the industry, with some publishers offering a better deal than others.
So it has come as no surprise that Tomb Raider, the upcoming origin-cum-reboot of the series is set to entice fans with a number of choices as well.
The Collector’s Edition will be the ultimate prize for any Tomb Raider fan as it comes with a copy of the game, a map of the island, a DLC weapon pack, a code that unlocks the soundtrack to the game as well as a mini art book. Not only that but it will also come with a six inch Lara Croft figurine and the entire package comes inside a “unique Endurance crew member’s metal survival box”.
The Special Edition comes with everything the Collector’s Edition has apart from the figurine and the box, which happen to be the two best things on offer.
That’s all on the special edition front, however, the game also comes with a number of pre-order incentives as well for gamers in the United Kingdom.
ShopTo.net is offer the digital edition of the “Tomb Raider: The Beginnings” comic book. That’s about it.
As for Tesco, the retailer is offering the Combat Strike pack. This includes the Pistol Silencer upgrade, the Animal Instinct upgrade pack, which highlights XP-laden animals, the Headshot Reticule upgrade which makes it easier to make those one shot kills and lastly, the Pistol Burst Mode upgrade which allows the player to fire a three-shot burst from the pistol.
At the same time Amazon.co.uk is offering exclusive DLC for the game. Not much has been announced at this time from the retailer but it expects to have a package ready by the end of the year.
Lastly is GAME, which is offering the Fast Climb upgrade, which is pretty self-explanatory and the Challenge Tomb, which is described as “An exclusive tomb for Lara to raid! In this new location, Lara will encounter all new environment puzzles that will test her abilities.”
Tomb Raider is set for release in March 2013, and it seems that a number of publishers are pushing for that Q1 2013 release window. Tomb Raider will hit stores on the back of the releases of both Dead Space 3 and Crysis 3, with both those games scheduled for a February release date.
It will be interesting to see how the game gets along in terms of both review scores and sales as one of the most iconic characters in gaming gets her origin story.
