Strauss Zelnick, the CEO of Take-Two games, believes that although Rockstar will develop games for the Nintendo Wii U they will not be aimed to cater for mature audiences.

Rockstar is known for making some of the best games in the industry as well as managing to stir up the most controversy at the same time. Its biggest franchises include the Grand Theft Auto series, which has come under regular fire for the fact that it promotes violence, crime and drugs; Bully, which created a whole level of controversy on its own and Max Payne, which speaks for itself.

All of those games cater to the mature audience with a number of games in the studio’s line-up shipping with an M-rating. An M-rating that Take-Two games CEO, Strauss Zelnick, believes will not fit in with Nintendo’s latest console, the Wii U.

According to the executive, nothing has been finalized yet, however, when it comes to the matter of releasing games such as Grand Theft Auto 5 or Max Payne on the first of the next generation of consoles, however, he admitted that he was “sceptical” at the prospect of that happening.

At the same time however, he admitted that the studio’s plans remained a secret and that they had not declared their intentions for the console, or as he put it so bluntly, “We haven’t announced anything.”

Zelnick admitted that they were not going to let the Nintendo Wii U go without any titles from the studio and deemed it a great chance to start new for the company. He said, “For a company like ours, it’s a great opportunity.”

Commenting on the next generation of consoles and the Wii in particular, Zelnick continued, “(New console launches) separate the winners from the losers — and we fully expect to be one of the winners.”

According to reports, Rockstar will develop family based games as well as sports titles for the console. However, as mentioned earlier, the developer remains reluctant to release M-rated games on a console whose predecessor was known for catering to the casual gaming market.

That being said, it would not come as a surprise if Rockstar does announce a number of its core games for the console yet it would depend on whether or not the non-casual gaming market adopts the Wii U and manages to break Nintendo’s ‘casual gamer’ image.

One thing that is for certain is the fact that Grand Theft Auto 5 is set for release on the current generation of consoles as well as PCs, although no release date has been announced for the game as yet.

GTA remains the one series that could perhaps break Call of Duty’s dominance as the best-selling game in the industry and it will be interesting to see if it does.
