Sony TV and Fox are set to bring the video game series, Battlefield: Bad Company to the TV screens as production on an action-comedy series has begun.
Hollywood always seems interested in making a movie based on someone else’s hard work, creativity and initiative. Whether it’s making movies based on comic books or video games, it does what it has to in order to capitalise on the opportunity
This time around however, it the TV channels and media groups that seem to want a slice of that pie as Sony TV and Fox have begun production on a Battlefield: Bad Company television series.
The Bad Company brand is basically an off-shoot from the core Battlefield experience. It is based on the same gameplay but it differs in a number of ways as well.
The two games each had a single-player campaign, the first of any Battlefield game. In fact, Battlefield 3 is the only game to have a single-player campaign and that too was largely hanks to the success of the off-shoot.
Also it was the first Battlefield game to release on consoles and its sequel, Bad Company 2 was the second. However, the most notable aspect of the Bad Company series was the humour of the first game.
EA went for a single-player campaign based on humour, with the three protagonists all providing various laughing points throughout the game, especially Haggard.
It seems that Fox and Sony saw an opportunity to adapt that into a television series. The action-comedy is based around a simple enough premise, one that expands on the game rather than attempting to replace everything gamers know about it.
The show will follow the four main characters of the game ‘as they exit military life and enter the private sector’.
Sounds simple enough to begin with, but there is a dark twist that will provide plenty of opportunities for action and some laughs as well.
Hollywood Deadline claims to have the inside scoop and have released the following report outlining the details:
“Trouble is never far behind as they realize their commanding officer had used them to further the ends of a shadow unit within the government and now wants them dead to cover his tracks.”
At this point it would be wise to clarify that these are still rumours as no official comment from the respective parties and until that time this story should be taken with a touch of salt.
But what about the reader; does the news of a Bad Company show sound appealing or is it just another money hogging scheme that attempts to use a popular title for their own means?
