Ubisoft isn’t ruling out the possibility of releasing the downloadable content for their post-zombie-apocalypse first-person shooter survival-horror title. You can’t get a more precise description of the game than that!
The Nintendo Wii U is out and as the world waits for the official sales figures of the console to be released developers are already taking a look at the next phase of the console’s life. This includes titles to follow the launch period and for some, the possibility of DLC.
One such studio that is currently pondering on whether they want to expand on their existing title. Ubisoft teased the prospect of seeing DLC of their latest game to be released on the Nintendo Wii U. ZombiU was the only title that managed to impress during this year’s Nintendo E3 Press Conference and again as GamesCom in Germany, as it was the only Wii U exclusive to attract the core gamer to the console.
However, the review scores for the game have been mixed with some hailing the game while others feeling it let itself down. Whatever the case, it seems the title has sold well enough and created enough of a gamer base to warrant a release of a downloadable content pack.
The publisher is still waiting for the figures to roll in but teased that DLC “could become a possibility” if it was feasible.
As to what the DLC could contain, well it isn’t clear at this point with the only indication being given by Bogdan Bridinel, the director of ZombiU, who explained a few things about the development process and how the studio has some stuff to work on.
He said, “A few things that we tried during production ended up on the cutting room floor,” before clarifying that the cuts were made from a quality standpoint and not due to a rushed development process, “but this was because they didn’t work out as well as we had hoped, not because the schedule forced us to.”
Nintendo will be hoping the Wii U gets off to a strong start as many developers and publishers are waiting to see how the console performs before diving in as well. If the sales figures are strong at the start then it would become more feasible for studios to bring triple-A titles to the Wii U, otherwise they could wait till there is enough of a gamerbase to justify pouring a huge budget into the console.
It is only a matter of time before those figures are released and it will be interesting to see if the console can do better than it’s predecessor. But what do you think; will the Wii U get off to strong start or will it struggle? Let us know in the comments section below.
