Tokyo Game Show 2012 Begins

Nintendo has always been somewhat of a revolutionary in the gaming space, breaking away from trends and setting its own course to deliver.

The Japan-based company had announced a free video application TVii for the Wii U in the North American region earlier this year, which has partially been launched according to recent updates.

However, Nintendo’s website has revealed that the TVii service will no longer remain exclusive to the US and Canada, but is in fact going to become available in the selected regions through Europe next year, i.e. 2013.

It is indeed a very big news for the Nintendo loyalists who plan on getting their hands on Wii U when it finally launches in Europe on November 30.

The company’s TVii service is yet another ground-breaking addition to a gaming console, which has traditionally been viewed as a source of only one kind of entertainment.

The free video application introduced by Nintendo will enable Wii U owners to use the console unique tablet controller GamePad to connect to the search, watch and interact with the services that they have subscribed to, be it cable, satellite, or video on demand services such as Hulu Plus, Amazon Instant Video, Netflix, etc.

This will in effect make Wii U more than just a gaming console and a turn-to machine for the users for their entertainment needs.

Nintendo had initially planned on launching TVii on the same day that Wii U was to launch in America, i.e. November 18, but it was delayed until December, save for the Netflix service.

With the gaming industry struggling to maintain itself as the most popular option for people because of the dip in innovation and fresh experience, there was a strong need for a new console to be introduced into the market to keep the likes of smartphones and tablets from taking over the gaming scene.

While Sony and Microsoft are still committed to the getting the desired results and making the desired impact through their current-generation consoles, namely PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 respectively, Nintendo has responded to the situation by launching the first console in the next-generation space.

Wii U is the Japan-based company’s first-ever high-definition (HD) console. Launching with 23 titles in the North American region, the system has made quite an impact during its first week.

Third-party support for the new console has helped it to hold its own in an extremely competitive market. Titles such as Assassin’s Creed III, ZombiU, Call of Duty: Black Ops II and Mass Effect 3: Special Edition were just a few of the titles that accompanied the likes of Super Mario Bros. U and Pikmin on the launch of Wii U in North America over a week ago.
