Bungie has confirmed that the leaked information regarding their upcoming game, Destiny, is accurate and claim they can’t wait to show off the entire project.
After creating the worldwide phenomenon known as the Halo series, Bungie have now set their sights on pastures new and still set, quite firmly, in the sci-fi genre.
Halo was responsible for the three core Halo games as well as the prequel, Reach, and the expansion, ODST. All games were well-received and sold just as well to boot. Microsoft decided to revive the IP once Bungie left and hired 343 Industries for another three instalments in the Halo universe.
The first of which, Halo 4, has been praised by fans and critics and done fairly well for itself and for Microsoft on the sales front.
However, Bungie have not been sitting idle and are well into development of their upcoming game, Destiny. The latest details surrounding the game have come from a rather unlikely source as documents from a marketing agency, responsible for pitching the game, found their way on to the internet.
The documents contain the plot of the upcoming game.
“Our story begins seven hundred years from now in the Last City on Earth, in a Solar System littered with the ruins of man’s Golden Age. A massive, mysterious alien ship hangs overhead like a second Moon. No one knows where it came from o what it’s here for, but only that it’s our protector. Meanwhile, strange, alien monsters creep in from the edge of the universe, determined to take Earth and the Last City.”
Bungie confirmed that the report followed by concept art was accurate but pointed out that they were made by the advertising agency and is not necessarily first-hand information. However, the studio also confirmed that a full reveal was coming soon.
“Go ahead. Take a peek. It’s alright. We weren’t quite ready, but we will be soon, and we can’t wait to finally show you what we’ve really been up to. Stick around, we haven’t even started yet.”
The game will see players take on the role of Knights, whose duty is to defend what is left of humanity while getting to the bottom of why this alien race wishes to destroy Earth and wipe out the human race.
One could say Bungie simply seem to be making a game still heavily influenced by their work on Halo, with an invasion and Spartans replaced by Knights, but it is in the gameplay that the new title looks set to differ with a number of rumours and reports putting the game in a social, almost MMO like genre.
Full details of the game and a reveal draw ever nearer and it is only a matter of time before Bungie’s not-so-secret project becomes public knowledge.
