United Kingdom: The critically hailed third instalment in Ubisoft’s rejuvenated series fails to take over the number one spot as the Call of Duty series continues to dominate.
It has been seven days since the last weekly software sales charts were released and this week sees a new entry.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 is doing what every Call of Duty game in the past five years has done before it and that is dominating the sales charts and showing no mercy to any of the big names. The game has been hailed as a nice refresher in what has slowly been turning into a stale and stagnating series. The new and expanded Zombies Mode has also been praised but the multiplayer component remains the game’s most popular mode, which can only bode well for Treyarch.
Debuting in second place is Ubisoft’s gorgeous third instalment in one of their long running series. Far Cry 3 took the series to triple-A levels and the publisher took a major risk in overhauling the game and adding extra layers of polish. However, it seems to have paid off big time with the game receiving nothing but praise from critics and gamers alike. Whether or not it will make it to the top spot remains to be seen but to be fair, with Black Ops 2 around it seems highly unlikely.
The third spot in the charts might as well be renamed FIFA 13, which has remained in the third spot for as long as one could care to remember. Nearly every new entry in the charts has debuted in at number two or below number three, which seems to be where EA Sports latest game has found its permanent spot. By permanent of course, it is understood that it means for the next few weeks at least.
Hitman Absolution remains in the top five as fans seem to enjoy donning the role of Agent 47 once again. The game has been received positively as it celebrates the essence of one of the gaming world’s longest running and most loved series. It comes in at number four for the week.
Rounding up the top five is another major franchise in the video game industry as Ubisoft will be pleased to see its fastest-selling game in history is still in the charts, and high up at the same time. Assassin’s Creed 3 rounds up the top five as Connor takes on the Templars during the War for Independence and brings a host of new moves and a handy hatchet to boot.
