The PlayStation Vita title has hit the PlayStation Network this week and expand the portfolio of one of Sony’s biggest franchises as the card based game looks to keep Uncharted fans excited.
It may not be one of the more conventional spin offs, as those usually include Kart racing games of apps for smart phones and tablets but it seems Sony and Bend Studios want to explore new avenues for the IP.
The first Uncharted game was released soon after the launch of the PlayStation 3 and although it was received positively, it lacked that final something special to really set it apart and take it to the next level.
Enter Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, which remains one of the finest gaming experiences on any console. The title sold a considerable number of PlayStation 3s and also led to the establishment of Naughty Dog’s series’ as one of the biggest titles in the industry.
Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception soon followed and sold well for itself as well but many still the second game as the best the series has to offer despite the third game having some truly jaw dropping moments.
With the PlayStation Vita came the IPs first entrance on to the portable platform with Uncharted: Golden Abyss. The game was not developed by the series’ creators, Naughty Dog, but rather by Bend Studios. It is also hailed as one of the better games on the platform, though that crown has since been put under contention by some serious competition.
However, it seems Sony want to milk the franchise for what it is worth and earlier announced a card based game on the PlayStation Vita based on the Uncharted franchise. That game is Uncharted: Fight for Fortune.
“The core gameplay in Uncharted: Fight for Fortune involves creating a team of Faction cards featuring heroes, villains, and mercenaries from the Uncharted universe, then using that team to defeat your opponent while defending yourself from their attacks.”
At the same time, the game can be considered either a stand alone title or an expansion for Uncharted: Golden Abyss as “The downloadable game connects up with the hit PlayStation Vita game Uncharted: Golden Abyss for players who want to further expand their card set. Using the 300 artifacts that can be found within Golden Abyss, you can go to battle with other players as well as AI opponents.”
For those who do not own a copy of Uncharted: Golden Abyss or do not have the PlayStation Plus subscription, which would give them the game for free, Fight for Fortune will be available as a standalone download as well.
