The creator of the upcoming Capcom title also highlights how the co-op mode works and dying in the game does not necessarily mean death

While other studios are bringing their already established IPs over on to the PlayStation Vita, Capcom is taking a considerable risk. The likes of Mortal Kombat, Resistance: Burning Skies and Uncharted: Golden Abyss, as well as LittleBigPlanet Vita, Assassin’s Creed 3: Liberation and many others.

However, Capcom is bringing a whole new IP to the console, which it hopes will define the console. The game is titled Soul Sacrifice and the gameplay design is fairly experimental. Players will have to sacrifice their items and their own character’s body parts and organs in order to gain powers and weapons. A rock can be sacrificed for armour, while one’s spinal cord can be sacrificed for the game’s most devastating weapon in the game, although that would end in the character’s death.

How does that benefit anyone? Well, as Keiji Inafune, the founder of Comcept and the creator of the game, reveals the new Ghost Mode. “The co-op multiplayer mode of Soul Sacrifice is not just about playing offense or defense. You will use yourself and allies as a catalyst for magic, and truly battle together.”

In essence a ‘dead’ player remains in the world as a ghost and can heal his fellow players during this time. As a ghost players can also stop time to help their co-op partners deal some heavy damage as well.

“You can strengthen your team mates or make the enemies vulnerable by touching them on the screen. So even after you die, you can keep aiding your party and continue co-op battle until the end with your friends.”

The game has been compared to Dark Souls and Demon’s Souls at times and the comparisons continue, however, not because Soul Sacrifice is a copy but rather because it is innovating in the multiplayer department much likes the Souls’ games, which can only be a positive.

At the same time, Inafune also adds some background on one of the bosses of the game. Leviathan is one of the many bosses players will face during the game and this particular boss was born out of a combination of magic, jealousy and a serious inferiority complex.

As it turns out there were two twin princes, with the elder one excelling at everything while the other struggled. The younger twin locked up a crocodile and tortured it to make himself feel powerful. When his elder brother was made the king, the younger brother wished the crocodile could kill his brother and before you know it, he became a boss that you must kill on your quest in the game.
