THQ share price up by 30% following Humble Bundle success

The financially troubled publisher is reaping the rewards of its Humble Bundle as the offering manages to raise over $5 million for various causes.

When THQ announced the Humble Bundle, many were surprised that a struggling publisher, which was on the verge of bankruptcy, was offering some of its best titles for a minimum of $1 each.

The offer was basically a ‘pay what you want’ for the game with the minimum price set at $1. Consumers could choose to pay extra as well, with the proceeds going to various charities. In addition, anyone who paid more than the minimum would also receive Saints Row: The Third for free.

If that sounds impressive then the fact that some of the publishers biggest titles were on offer will come as another surprise for those new to the Humble Bundle. Titles such as Metro 2033, the first Darksiders game, Red Faction: Armageddon and the complete Company of Heroes game, complete with the two expansion packs, were on offer.

Along with Saints Row, it was recently announced that those who paid above the $1 mark for a game would also receive more free games in return. The newly added games and expansions include Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War, an expansion to Red Faction: Armageddon, and finally Titan Quest.

One can understand the lack of Darksiders 2, with the game only having been released a few months ago. The offer is set to continue for the remainder of the Holiday Season and apart from being a nice gesture from the publisher there seems to be a business motive behind it as well.

Since the offer was launched, THQ has seen a steady increase in its share price. According to Edge, the publisher’s share price has risen by 29.6%. it closed trading at $1.40 recently, which was the highest figure for the studio for a considerable period of time.

In total, the Humble Bundle has made a total of $5,097,476.23 with a total of 885,289 different users took advantage of the offer and have made considerable donations to various charities.

Not only that but THQ is hoping to hype up and grow some interest in their upcoming game Metro: Last Light but offering its predecessor for free. Metro 2033, which is also available through the Humble Bundle, can be downloaded by free as well. All players need to do is Like the studio’s Facebook page to gain a code which gives them the game as a digital download.
