The first episode of Telltale Games’ point-and-click adventure role-playing game is going free on Xbox 360 for a limited time.

Christmas may be over, but Telltale Games is clearly not in the mood to let go of the spirit just yet, something that is quite evident from the gift that it is all set to offer to gamers.

The company has pretty much confirmed on the social networking and micro-blogging website Twitter that Episode 1 of its critically acclaimed game The Walking Dead will become available on the Xbox Live for free.

The window of opportunity, however, will remain open for only a limited time, with the offer to end by January 31, 2013.

That still gives ample time to anyone who has heard about the game and what it has accomplished to see for themselves what the hype is all about and whether it is justified.

Telltale Games really seems to know what it is doing by making The Walking Dead – Episode 1: A New Day free on Xbox 360.

The game comprises of five episodes in total, with each episode offering an entertaining and gripping experience.

It is more than likely that anyone who gets the taste of the game by playing through its first episode for free would find himself craving for more and therefore willing to spend 400 Microsoft Points for the other four episodes, thus seeing the adventure to its end.

Released on multiple platforms, The Walking Dead has found an immense amount of success in the market.

Surprisingly, the game has received excellent reviews from critics despite belonging to a completely different genre from the games that have been dominating the charts for some years now, namely Call of Duty and Uncharted, with the emotional tone to the game’s story being described as its strongest and most attractive element.

The point-and-click adventure role-playing game (RPG) was originally slated for release in the final month of 2011, but the production and development of the project push its release date to early early-mid 2012.

The first episode of The Walking Dead game arrived through distribution channel in April earlier this year, with the remaining episodes arriving over the next seven months.

The retail version of the game was slated for a December 11, 2012, release, but was eventually released after a week’s delay.

The Walking Dead walked netted a handful of honours at this year’s Spike Video Game Awards show, which included the Game of the Year award, Best Adapted Video Game award and the Best Downloadable Game award.

Telltale Games got the Studio of the Year award, whereas the Best Performance by a Human Female award went to Melissa Hutchison as Clementine from The Walking Dead game.
