Ubisoft’s latest game has plenty for completionists to do in the latest instalment in the Assassin’s Creed series, including learning Desmond’s fate. Interesting…

There is a certain level of satisfaction derived from increasing one’s Gamerscore, especially when the small blip appears on screen which reads, “Achievement Unlocked”, or in the case of the PlayStation 3 the unique trophy sound followed by the name of the trophy.

Kevin Butler, Sony’s Vice-President of pretty much everything, described it best as earning a trophy that isn’t real, but is.

Gamers now have 50 challenges to accomplish to up their gamerscore and platinum the game. Starting things off with the mandatory trophy just to get things rolling is to get back in the Animus.

Apparently, Desmond may very well die at the start of the game as the second trophy in the game, ‘No Good Deed Goes Unpunished’ requires the player to Open the Temple Door and learn Desmond’s fate.

The next trophy also has one wondering what’s in-store for Desmond as players will unlock the Mystery Guest trophy for completing the first two sequences of the game.

There will be 12 sequences in the main story mode followed by four bonus missions, which will be unlocked after the game’s end credits roll, with each having a trophy awarded to the player for completing them.

Players will also have the help of Benjamin Franklin who will give Connor inventions to craft and players can unlock the Patent Not Pending trophy by decorating their Manor, in-game of course, with one of them.

Some other notable trophies include upgrading Connor’s ship the Aquila, as well as winning all the naval missions as well. There will be a number of clubs in the game’s world as well and being invited to join any of them will also unlock and achievement.

Moving on to the more traditional Assassin’s Creed trophies now and it turns out that performing a double assassination with a musket not only looks and sounds cool but it will also unlock a trophy as well.

At the same time taking out 15 guards with a single cannon shot will also unlock the Circus Act trophy. However, hanging 5 enemies with rope darts sounds like a winner as well.

For those looking for an extra bit of a challenge, there is the Prince of Thieves achievement, which can only be unlocked by looting a “convoy without killing and of its guards”

There is also a number of multiplayer trophies as well, but Ubisoft seem to be more focused on single player achievements this time around.

All in all, the list of trophies and achievements seem to be a nice balance between simple yet challenging and balanced at the same time, but what do the readers think; are they lacking imagination or do they sound exciting?
