Alex Hutchinson, the creative director of the series at Ubisoft, believes that fans will be pleased to see how Desmond’s story arc comes together in Assassin’s Creed 3 and compares his journey to that of Luke Skywalker.
In a statement that has every proud nerd’s attention, Hutchinson has put it out there as he compared the nobody bar tender who is from a lineage of the most skilled assassin’s in the world to that of Luke Skywalker, perhaps the greatest Jedi knight the world has ever seen.
A bold claim to say the least but one must put everything into perspective in order to understand where the claim is coming from and what better source to quote than Hutchinson himself, who said, “I don’t think anyone really liked Luke Skywalker in A New Hope, but by the end of his character arc, this journey that he goes through, makes him amazing.”
The creative director continued, “He’s this guy who’s a bit of a nobody when it starts out and gets new abilities through reliving the lives of his ancestors.”
He may not have been trained by Obi but he did get his training from Altair and Ezio, who wouldn’t have been too out of place with a light saber in their hands.
“The story of Assassin’s Creed, AC II, Brotherhood and Revelations was to build Desmond up.” A fact, that Hutchinson seemed to emphasize the importance of when he continued, “So we’ve built this guy up over the course of the games, and I really believe that we can pay that off, and in retrospect he’ll be terrific.”
The third core entry in the series sees a number of changes, ranging from the setting to the protagonist to a whole new engine, capable of rendering massive battles such as the one seen in the E3 trailer.
However, the focus this time around has been on Desmond more than new comer Connor as Revelations revealed how the world was set to end and Desmond coming out of a coma to declare he knew where they had to go and what they had to do.
The journey has taken them to America and the Boston, New York area to be specific. It is these two cities where the game is going to be set, with the PlayStation Vita version set to take place in New Orleans around the same time as well.
There is no doubting the level of hype surrounding the game as it has nothing but impress in the demos and trailers that have been released so far.
The game is set to release on the 30th of October on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 and it looks likely that it could very well be the last time we see Desmond star in the series.
