Corey May, the lead writer of Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed series, explains that although they intend to tie up a number of loose ends in the latest game, there will still be plenty of room for sequels as well.

Ubisoft has turned its Assassin’s Creed series into a success story, despite receiving mixed reviews when the first game was released. However, the success is not just from the critics and fans who have taken the series and made it one of the most celebrated IPs on the current generation of consoles but also a franchise that is successful on the financial front as well.

Following an annual release model, many wondered whether it would suck the life out of the series prematurely. However, the exact opposite has happened as each new release has recorded higher sales than its predecessor. In fact, Assassin’s Creed: Revelations broke the series sales record in under a week, and remains Ubisoft’s best-selling title.

Ubisoft has maintained that as long as each new iteration brings quality and value, then consumers will invest in the product and that seems to be working so far.

Assassin’s Creed 3 on the other hand, has been in development for over two years, by a team different from the one working on Ezio’s trilogy. The game makes use of an improved Anvil engine which can render massive battles in real time.

However, apart from the Assassinations themself, the game has relied on its storyline more than anything and with the last entry in the series giving some closure to fans as well as opening another box of unanswered questions, Assassin’s Creed 3 has plenty to offer in terms of story.

Corey May earlier stated how a number of questions raised by the previous entries in the series would be answered in the latest game but at the same time he added that there would still be plenty of room for future instalments in the series.

He explained that the writer’s would have plenty to expand on, “Should they decide in the future to do other stuff, there’s plenty of room to explore, plenty of seeds that have been planted that won’t conflict.”

Assassin’s Creed 3 is set for release across all major platforms including the Nintendo Wii U, making it the first Assassin’s Creed game to be released on the next generation of home consoles.

The game also takes place in revolutionary North America as the latest protagonist, Connor, looks to take vengeance on the Templars who destroyed his family and his tribe, regardless of which side of they fight for.

But what do the readers think; is it time the series wrapped itself up or would they like to see even more Assassin’s Creed games in the future? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
