Ubisoft presents Assassin's Creed 3 duri

Matt Turner, the scriptwriter for Ubisoft’s upcoming game, explained how the idea of including the notorious traitor came about and how it fit in so well with the existing story that they just could not pass up the chance to include it.

It should be noted at the start that the Benedict Arnold DLC is a PlayStation 3 exclusive for the time being and there has been no mention of whether or not it is a timed exclusive or not.

With that disappointment cushion-er out of the way it is time to delve a little deeper as to the reasons behind the inclusion of the character in the game.

Just to add a bit of background for those, Benedict Arnold, was a turncoat who attempted to hand over West Point to the British. The Loyalist, however, was found out by George Washington and now his name lives on infamy as a traitor, or the worst double-o agent in British intelligence history, whichever you prefer it still doesn’t end well for him.

Matt Turner, explained how Arnold’s timeless treachery saw him jump to the top of the list for basing extra side missions on. He said, “Benedict Arnold is a name that transcended the Revolution and became a synonym for the word ‘traitor’. Given some of the themes in the main story thread, it flowed really well with some of the later beats.”

That was where Mr. Turner stopped himself from giving too much away. “but I won’t be specific as they are spoilers! It was also a great opportunity for us to tell a story that people know but don’t really know, you know?”

When asked what kind of battles or activities the players would see themselves carry out during this particular set of missions, Turner explained that they could expect a mixed bag.

“The player will be fighting a variety of characters from both sides of the conflict. Activities range from the mundane to the epic…but I don’t want to give too much away, as its part of the experience!”

Whether or not that includes carrying a pot of flowers from one end of the town to the other while flirting with the lady you are helping remains unconfirmed but that’s pretty much as mundane as the series has gotten so far. Apart from that one could expect at least a few assassinations along the way.

The Benedict Arnold DLC will be available from day one, when the game releases on the 30th of October and is free PlayStation 3 users. Well, actually its only for PlayStation 3 users but you get what we were trying to say.

However, the interview of Matt Turner by the PlayStation Blog was not over yet as he had plenty else to share as well.
