Microsoft's Xbox E3 Press Briefing

If anyone was under the impression that releasing the final chapter in the Mass Effect trilogy would be the end of the franchise, they could not have been more wrong.

The studio had revealed their plans of releasing a handful of downloadable content (DLC) for the game to keep the game alive and experience fresh and that is exactly what it is being done.

While BioWare has already released an add-on to give the ending of the third title in the franchise more depth after the fans expressed their disappointment over the rather dismal conclusion to a tale that is expected to go down in history as one of the best plot in video games, the studio had plenty of DLC still in the pipeline.

One of the additional contents heading to the sci-fi role-playing game headed later this year is revealed to be Omega, a single-player content that will have players heading out on a new mission to take care of business this fall.

The upcoming DLC was confirmed by the general manager of the studio Aaryn Flynn in his farewell address to the two co-founders of the BioWare studio Greg Zeschuk and Ray Muzyka, both of whom are throwing in the towel after steering the ship for the past 17 years.

The studio is yet to reveal more details of the upcoming DLC, though speculations suggest that it is likely to do something with Aria T’Loak, one of the characters in the game, and Omega, which is a place flooded with terrorists, criminals and basically anyone who is looking to stay out of the reach of law. Putting such factions in close proximity can only lead to chaos and a battle that is expected to be long and ugly. It is, however, difficult to imagine just what sort of role could Aria be playing in all this. It is important to note, though, that she was the only person on Omega who was keeping some sort of order.

With Omega already confirmed to become available for download this fall, it would be interesting to see when the remaining DLCs arrive.

It seems unlikely that BioWare would wait too long before releasing the other content, which range from single-player missions to multi-player additions, since it has already been revealed that the franchise is to continue with yet another Mass Effect game.

The news of Mass Effect 4 has come off as a bit of a surprise for the fans since the ending of the third title in the series pretty-much wrapped everything up, leaving very little for the story to continue with.

BioWare has successfully delivered with the first-three Mass Effect games and thus there seems to be hardly any reason to doubt that the next game would be anything less than impressive in terms of story, presentation and gameplay.
