Apparently Nintendo seem to want to give fans choice when it comes to the colour of their next-gen console as a retail listing hints at both a black and a white model of the Wii U for release.
Nintendo is set to be the first out of the blocks as the next-gen race kicks off having already shown off their console in not one but two E3 Press Conferences so far.
The Nintendo Wii U was officially unveiled at E3 2011, to a mixed reception from the crowd as without any content to show many did not know what to make of the Wii U’s tablet controller and focus on single-player experiences.
Fast forward one year later and Nintendo showed off plenty of content for the console, however, apart from Ubisoft’s ZombiU, the first-person shooter set in a zombie apocalypse, none of the other titles managed to rouse any excitement.
Sony also admitted that the Nintendo Wii U could be a potential threat to the “PlayStation business”, however it felt that the lack of software and content to go with the console would mean that the PlayStation 3 could compete with the console.
The latest Wii U story comes from one of the most common sources of news in the video gaming industry, online retail listing. Best Buy, the US retailer, listed two versions of the Nintendo Wii for release with one of the model being black and the other white.
It could be a ploy to attract more preorders for the console, however, it ought to be noted that both models were not listed at the same time, as the black version was listed a week after the white one.
Nintendo has not commented on the matter, which could mean that anyone’s guess would be just as plausible as the next person’s.
As for the release date of the console, many analysts are predicting that the Nintendo Wii U will be out by the end of the year or early next year. However, the German division of online retailer, Amazon.com listed the console for a release this December.
It also stated the price also it conceded it was speculative and that gamers could expect it to go down even further.
The Wii U does have quite a launch line-up to boast about with ZombiU, a Rayman game, Assassin’s Creed 3 and Batman: Arkham City Armoured Edition all set to be day one releases for the console. So early content may not be an issue, however, it will be interesting to see how Nintendo can maintain the momentum in the ensuing months and one has to expect a Mario or Legend of Zelda title to be announced soon, or maybe even a new instalment in the Metroid Prime series.
