The game may have disappointed many and brought in lower than expected sales but the game’s publisher refuses to call it a failure and is waiting for the dust to settle before assessing Resident Evil 6’s performance.
The latest game in the long running series has split fans right down the middle as the series seems to have bid farewell to its survival-horror roots and focused more on an action oriented approach. Capcom often praised the Call of Duty series and hopes to emulate its success and the studio’s solution has been to have their games lay a greater emphasis on action.
However, the change in emphasis seems to have fans of the series wondering whether or not they just purchased another Resident Evil game or a new experience altogether. That is not to say that there aren’t any fans who do not appreciate the game but the majority of the gamers who have played Resident Evil 6 are of the opinion that it is perhaps the most un-Resident Evil title in the series.
Even in that regard there is more to it, as Leon’s campaign was hailed for bringing back some of the classic Resident Evil feeling, claustrophobia and suspense, but the campaigns of Muller and Chris Redfield are where the problems seem to lie for most fans.
That being said, the game has seen more success in Japan than in other regions and Capcom are keen to point out that the game got off to a strong start before it began its slump down the charts.
The publisher responded to issues raised by investors by pointing out the fact that “Resident Evil 6 continues to generate repeat sales in Japan and overseas.”
The statement continued, “Furthermore, initial shipments set a new record for a Capcom title. So this game has been successful to some degree.”
The publisher also believes that everyone needs to wait for the dust to settle before coming to any opinions about whether or not the game was a success or not. “We there believe it is too early to reach a conclusion about how users view this game.”
Capcom also pointed out that fan feedback was always taken into consideration and future Resident Evil content would cater that in as well to ensure the majority of fans would get what they want. “We always listen carefully to the feedback from users and use this information when developing games.”
Capcom recently released a free DLC for the game earlier which unlocked a separate campaign, that of Ada Wong, from the start as well as introduced a new difficulty mode for those looking for an even tougher challenge.
