A number of developers are taking a gamble with the Nintendo Wii U including the likes of EA and Ubisoft, but it turns out that Capcom also has a few cards up its sleeve.
Capcom used to be a major force in the gaming industry and while it still is, the studio isn’t the powerhouse it once was. However, it still has a number of franchises to its name that can do more than just the business. The likes of Resident Evil, Street Fighter and Dead Rising are just a few examples of Capcom’s impressive portfolio but there are many, many others as well.
However, the studio seems to have big things planned for Nintendo’s next generation console, Wii U. Capcom has already announced that the latest instalment of their immensely popular franchise, Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, will be making its way onto the Wii U as well as the 3DS, but went on to hint towards other titles making their way to the next-gen console as well.
Christian Svensson, is the senior vice president at Capcom’s consumer software wing, and he went on record to get fans excited about the Wii U.
Svensson was cautious before making the statement as he took a moment to tell everyone to calm down, in a rather polite way.
“I have to be careful what I say here as it will surely be overanalysed and misinterpreted to be more than what I’m saying.” Before getting on the bit that held everyone’s interest, “We have other projects in the works beyond MH3 (Monster Hunter) Ultimate.”
However, the Capcom executive stopped short of giving any real information away. “Unfortunately at this time I cannot provide any details. I’m sure as someone who is interested in Wii U and a Capcom-Unity.com member; you won’t be able to miss news of future projects when they finally do get announced.”
In essence, it was ‘you’ll find out when you find out’ call from Capcom; however, they certainly have everyone’s attention. Speculation has already begun as to what franchises the studio will be bringing over to the Wii U.
A Resident Evil game doesn’t seem too unlikely, and a Dead Rising game would fit in well also, but one can sense a barrage of Street Fighter games waiting in the horizon as well. At the same time, Capcom could be developing new IPs for the console as well, as the launch period is usually when developers tend to innovate.
However, all of that is mere speculation at the moment and it remains to be seen what titles Capcom has up its sleeve. But what about the readers; what games do you think the studio is currently working on? Let us know your predictions in the comments section below.
