Crysis 3 to push consoles to their limits according to dev

Cevat Yerli, the CEO of CryTek, claims that their latest game will max out the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 and that “no game will look technically better than Crysis 3”.

The Crysis games have a tradition of being some of the best looking games out there. The original game, or rather, the first game in the series, required players to have a considerably powerful PC to run it. Hence, the phrase, ‘can it run Crysis’ was coined.

That game however, was exclusive to the PC, before it was released on consoles later on. The second instalment, saw a change in protagonist, though the nano-suit remained the same, and also saw a multiplatform release. The game released on the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360 alongside its release on PCs.

While it may not have been as atmospheric as the Killzone games, the visuals were lauded by many. It was not as visually spectacular as some were hoping but technically it was a solid game. We tend to call Crysis 2 the prettiest average shooter out there. It did nothing new and apart from the suit’s abilities and visuals, it is pretty much another run of the mill shooter.

However, Crysis 3 seems to be bringing a triple-A blockbuster experience with even more polished visuals this time around and the trailer at E3 earlier on in the year look absolutely gorgeous.

According to Yerli, the console version of the game will demonstrate to players the absolute limits of their capabilities.

He explained, “Crysis 3 is absolutely maxing out the consoles. There is absolutely not even 1 percent left.”

Yerli then went on to make a rather bold claim when he said, “No game will look technically better than Crysis 3 on these console, flat out. Most games are not even anywhere near Crysis 2 technically.”

To which the gaming community shouted Killzone 2 and 3, Uncharted, Halo 4 and Gears of War 3. Though one could excuse Halo 4 as it is a fairly new game. Yerli seemed to be ready for that response and elaborated, “I’m not talking about art style – art is subjective – but the pure fact of what we have been cramming in with Crysis 2 on Xbox and PlayStation, I’ve yet to see a game do that still today.”

One can expect the PC build to be much better looking as titles such as Medal of Honor: Warfigther and Battlefield 3 have demonstrated and Crysis 3 will not be the first game to push the consoles to their limits with Naughty Dog also claiming that Uncharted 3 was the peak at which the PlayStation 3 could be pushed with only a few small tweaks possible in the next iteration.
