Ubisoft announces the latest PlayStation 3 exclusive DLC for their critically acclaimed first-person shooter, which will pick up right where the original co-op story mode left off.
Far Cry 3 surprised pretty much everyone who saw the game’s reveal trailer at E3 in 2011. The visceral, high production value feel and an intriguing plot about ‘insanity’. The benchmark had been set pretty high following that trailer and since then the game has failed to disappoint.
E3 2012 saw the game figure heavily, with Ubisoft not shying away from showing everything they could, without giving too much away, during the various conferences. During their own press conference, the publisher showed plenty of single-player moments while they took their chance during the Sony Conference to show off some of the more co-op related features. By that we of course mean, revealing the four player co-op mode.
However, the refreshing thing about the co-op mode is that is has been praised for actually adding value to the game instead of just being the tacked on extra feature that it is usually ends up being. The four player co-op mode has its own unique storyline, which runs parallel to the single-player campaign.
The latest DLC for the game is exclusive to the PlayStation 3. Ubisoft has confirmed that the bonus content will be on offer on the PlayStation Store early next year in January. Yet, the publisher isn’t waiting until then to get the hype train running as Meghan Watt, the writer at Massive Entertainment, teased plenty about the extra content.
The writer took to the Official PlayStation Blog to share the following information.
“High Tides will take place where the original six co-op chapters left off. These are the gang’s final moments, and we’re really challenging ourselves to go all-out.”
The post continued, “We’ve got new missions, tougher fights, bigger competitions, some great up-close time with your favourite characters, and explosive moments unlike anything you’ve seen before.”
Before concluding, “This January, we’re releasing two entirely new co-op chapters, Jailbreak and Redemption. The new chapters feature the culmination of all the hard work we’ve put into the main co-op campaign.”
Far Cry 3 has made a fair bit of revenue for itself, or rather its publisher, as it remains in the top ten in the charts in both North America and the United Kingdom. The praise for the game has also been pouring in from every corner of the globe and it seems that Ubisoft’s investment in the IP to take it to the triple-A stage has paid off and one can expect a Far Cry 4 to be announced when the next E3 comes around.
