Well, release month actually as People Can Fly has announced the game will release in March next year and introduces new multiplayer modes including OverRun.
Gears of War is one of the gaming highlights that Microsoft’s Xbox 360 has to offer with the trilogy having a huge fan base as well as being both a critical and a commercial success. Epic Games, the studio behind the widely used Unreal Engine, was behind the development of the Gears’ trilogy but has now moved on to other projects leaving the franchise open to People Can Fly.
The studio now has the daunting task of delivering a similar, if not better, experience with Gears of War Judgement, which happens to be a prequel to Epic’s three games centring around Marcus Fenix.
In fact, the latest game is set 15 years before the events of the first Gears of War game and stars Damon Baird. For those who have seen the trailers or screenshots of the game but have not played the game itself, Baird is the ally AI with the blonde hair.
One of the reasons Baird was chosen as the star of the new game is because of the fact that the former non-playable character “topped Epic’s ‘customer satisfaction surveys’”.
The new multiplayer mode introduced is OverRun, which can is similar to many modes found in other games. It basically revolves around two teams and a generator; one team has to destroy the generator while the other has to defend the objective.
Classes will also be introduced for the new mode which will split players up into engineers, soldiers or medics. Engineers can deploy turrets while soldiers can replenish their teammates’ ammunition and medics can heal their fellow players.
Meanwhile the release window for the game was also announced by the director of production at Epic Games, Rod Fergusson via Twitter. The tweet from G4TV, who broke the news, read: “You hear it here! Gears of War Judgement will be released in March…But @GearsViking (Fergusson) won’t let us say more yet.”
Gears of War Judgement was teased during Microsoft’s E3 Press Conference last month and managed to generate quite a bit of excitement. However, one should not expect any major changes in terms of visuals and gameplay seeing how the previous instalment in the game pushed the 360 to its limit.
However, the new developer could help bring in a few tweaks and changes that may just take the game to a new level in terms of innovation. OverRun does seem interesting, despite the fact that other games such as Battlefield, Killzone, Modern Warfare 3 and even Counter Strike have something similar but one can sense it being slightly different in the Gears of War setting.
