Capcom also joins the release date announcement party with Marvel vs. Capcom Origins date for the PlayStation Network and Xbox LIVE Arcade.

Starting things off with one of the most milked series in the industry today and Marvel vs. Capcom is set to get another entry in the series with Origins. The game is set to be released as a digital download only and will be available on both Microsoft’s Xbox LIVE Arcade and PlayStation Network.

The title is set to be priced at $14.99 or €14.99 (£11.99) on the PlayStation Network and 1,200 Microsoft Points on the Xbox LIVE Arcade. The title itself is a bundle of two games, namely Marvel Super Heroes and Marvel vs. Capcom: Clash of Superheroes and should interest the fan base that the series has grown over the years and will be released later this month, on the 25th of September.

Sony and PlayStation 3 users however, will be focusing more on the release of the upcoming prequel to one of the PlayStation brand’s most iconic series, God of War: Ascension. The game’s developers tied things off pretty nicely at the end of the third game, which was released on the PlayStation 3, so a prequel seemed the only logical way to go.

It turns out that after much teasing and plenty of gameplay demos, Kratos will be brutalizing mythological creatures on PlayStation 3s next year. North America is set to receive the game on the 12th of March, while users in the United Kingdom and Ireland will have to wait a whole three extra days for the 15th of March before they can get their hands on the game.

Europe is set to receive the game on the 13th of March, while Ascension will be hitting the land down under (Australia and New Zealand) on the 14th of March.

The game will be the first in the series to introduce a multiplayer component and reactions to the news and the demo were mixed as many wondered whether playing against other people fit into the God of War formula that had been perfected over the years.

The third game in the series, God of War 3, was a real triumph for Sony as it brought the vengeance seeking protagonist, Kratos, to full current generation High-Definition glory and gamers loved every brutal, gore-filled second of it.

Whether or not Ascension can build on that success or not remains to be seen but early signs and demos seem to indicate that the game could very well be the best looking title on the PlayStation 3 yet.

But what about the readers; do they think that the game will emulate its predecessors or is it just Sony trying to milk the series for every last drop? Let us know in the comments section below.
