The highly-anticipated League of Legends Season 2 World Finals have already kicked-off in Southern California, America, bringing the 12 best team from around the globe to the biggest eSports tournament ever to compete for the $2,000,000.
With the popularity of the multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) game touching the skies, the hype surrounding the event hardly comes off as a surprise.
Riot vice president of eSports Dustin Beck, admitted during a recent interview with GameSpot that the team had really high expectations off the latest season of the World Finals, but the way the staggering response from the fans had not only exceeded their expectations, but had actually blown it right out of the water.
According to him, it had only taken a few hours for the tickets for all three days of the play-offs to sold out, thus compelling the eSports team to restructure the event plans to accommodate as many people as possible for the finals.
Despite all the restructuring and releasing extra tickets, it had only taken four days for the tickets to completely sell out.
In response to a question asked by GameStop regarding the decision to split the finals over two weekends instead of simply wrapping it up during a single weekend, Beck said that they were looking to make the League of Legends eSports tournament the best possible viewership and fan experience.
“We’re really looking for the best possible viewership and fan experience around League of Legends eSports. Think about how the NBA, NFL, and other mainstream sports organizations run their playoffs. Their post-season is paced in a way that builds tension and allows for amazing stories and moments to emerge. With the Regional events around the world, followed by the Playoffs and Finals for the World Championship, we’re aiming to deliver a similar crescendo as the level of competition and anticipation gets higher and higher,” explained Beck.
Both Riot and eSports organisers are extremely determined to ensure that action of the second season of League of Legends World Finals can be viewed by as many audience as possible.
Efforts have been made to level up the live and broadcast experience so that the audience get the best possible view of the action.
24 streams are available for the League of Legends enthusiasts to catch the action live through Twitch.tv and Own3d.tv.
It would not matter how far the fans are from their favourite teams because Riot and eSports have pretty much done everything that is possible to ensure that nobody misses out on the action.
League of Legends World Season 2 World Finals kicked off on October 4 and after narrowing down the field over the next two days, will bring the two best teams against each other in the Grand Finals that is scheduled to take place on October 13.
