Limbo: Special Edition released, details

The PC and Mac version of the popular Xbox LIVE Arcade title comes with a number of goodies that ought to entice gamers, including its price.

Limbo is one of those titles that will cast a spell on anyone who enters the dark, atmospheric, black, white and gray world the game is set in. The game proved immensely popular on Xbox LIVE and it seems that game’s publisher believes that a PC and Mac version of the game are feasible options.

However, the game is not just being released on PCs and Macs without any extra incentives; in fact, the game is being released as a Special Edition. The bundle comes with a copy of the award winning indie title, Limbo, as well as the game’s acclaimed soundtrack and art cards.

At the same time, the Special Edition also comes with a pair of retro 3D glasses, the one with the red-blue screens, which one can be sure won’t work on the latest high-definition television sets.

The entire package will only cost $24.99, which is a considerable amount for an indie arcade title, but if the game’s track record in terms of review scores and sales on Xbox LIVE is anything to go by, it may just prove to be a shrewd move by the game’s publisher.

The Special Edition also comes with both Mac and PC versions, so there is no need to worry about having to look for different versions of the game itself.

The game is also available on the Xbox LIVE Marketplace for 1,200 Microsoft Points, which equates to about $15, however, that particular edition is a digital download only and does not come with the game’s soundtrack, 3D glasses or the art cards.

Many gamers will already have played the game but for those who have not, Limbo is a title that has proven the fact that there is still a place in the video game industry for indie titles as long as they bring something fresh, innovative and, in Limbo’s case, original to the table.

For those who do not know, the game is basically a platformer with set in a black, white and gray world and the object, much like any platformer, is to get from point A to point B while avoiding all the obstacles in the middle.

The ‘obstacles’ themselves are another major selling point for the game as they range from giant spiders to bear traps and falling objects.

It will be interesting to see how well the Special Edition sells on PCs and Macs as only the more hardcore Limbo fans and those who have not yet played the game will be interested in the title.

There have also been reports that work on a sequel have already begun although these reports have not been officially confirmed by anyone working on the game.
