PlayStation’s cutest icon is making his way on to Sony’s second-generation portable gaming console as Sack Boy makes his debut on the PlayStation Vita with a bit of help from BioShock.
Sony has a bit of a problem on their hands as their second-generation of portable gaming console, the PlayStation Vita, is struggling on the sales front. Although the consumer electronics giant claims they are satisfied by the way the console has sold so far analysts are of a completely different opinion.
According to them the console is not doing as well as it could and repeatedly highlight how the Vita is in desperate need of a price cut in order to both boost sales and avoid being a disaster. However, Sony executives have repeatedly stated that the Vita is great value for its price and that the company is focusing on providing triple-A content as their main means of boosting sales.
To the consumer electronics giant, better games and content on the Vita equal better sales. Almost proving their point, the weekly sales of the Vita nearly tripled in Japan following the release of a popular title and the same thing happened in the West when Mortal Kombat and Resistance: Burning Skies were released.
One title that both gamers and analysts agree would help the console see a boost in sales is LittleBigPlanet. The Play.Create.Share title is set to make its way on to the PlayStation Vita as Sony looks to bring a number of its popular first-party console titles to the portable gaming device.
The game will come with full compatibility with the console version of the game as well and all content available on LBP will be available for the Vita version of the game as well.
There have been rumours of cross-platform play as well but nothing has been shown off as yet, in fact, the publisher has not even announced a release date for the game as yet.
However, gamers who want to put down a pre-order for the game will be treated to the Big Daddy of extra content. Those readers who have played the BioShock games or have heard about them will have gotten the pun in the previous sentence and for those who didn’t, well, to put things simply, LBP for the Vita will be getting BioShock content as a pre-order incentive.
Tarsier Studios, the developers of the game, have announced that the BioShock costume pack will be made available for the title and gamers can run around as Big Sack Daddies, or something of the like.
But what does the reader think? Will LittleBigPlanet save the Vita or does it need another more core gamer title? Let us know in the comments section below.
