Microsoft's Xbox E3 Press Briefing

EA and BioWare are set to roll out the entire Sam Shepard Mass Effect trilogy in one bundle, complete with most of the downloadable content.

If anyone has not played any of the Mass Effect games but always wanted to, then the time has come for them to come forward and embrace the multi-million dollar franchise that is the Mass Effect series.

EA has announced that they are set to release the entire trilogy across the three major current platforms. That means that Mass Effect 1, 2 and 3 will be hitting the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PCs later on in the year.

This is especially significant for PlayStation 3 users as it will be the first time that Mass Effect 1 is made available on the console after originally being an Xbox 360 exclusive. However, gamers will not be required to purchase the entire trilogy in order to play the first part as Mass Effect 1 will also be offered as a stand along download via the PlayStation Store.

The entire trilogy however, is set to retail at $59.99, which is the same cost as a new title, but it packs three times the punch. Another attraction that EA will be hoping grabs everyone’s attention is the fact that the trilogy comes with chunks of the DLC for the game as well.

For the Xbox 360, EA announced that the “Bring Down the Sky and Pinnacle Station are not included with Mass Effect, however they are available as stand-alone downloads through Xbox LIVE. For Mass Effect 2, Cerberus Network will be included and Online Pass will be included for Mass Effect 3.”

At the same time PC users’ copies of “Mass Effect will include Bring Down the Sky and Pinnacle Station on disk. For Mass Effect 2, Cerberus Network will be included which features Zaeed – The Price of Revenge, The Firewalker Pack, Cerberus Assault Gear, Arc Projector heavy weapon, and Normandy Crash site mission. For Mass Effect 3, Online Pass will be included granting players access to co-op multiplayer.”

However, the publisher was not as forth coming with what would be on offer with the PlayStation 3 version of the trilogy as they kept the details to themselves.

Mass Effect 3 came under heavy criticism from fans over the endings of the game and BioWare, after initially ignoring the protests, decided to release a DLC with endings that they thought would soothe the fans anger.

It seems EA is set to milk the franchise for all its worth and the trilogy pack is an example of that. But what about the readers; will they be picking up a copy of the trilogy for themselves or is it something they will be passing on? Let us know in the comments section below.
