Hideo Kojima is one of the most respected personalities in the world of video games and is known for the Metal Gear series, which is something he wishes to build on and change.
Over the years, the legendary developer has constantly announced that he is looking to bring new IPs to the world and work on something other than one of the biggest names in the world of video games. Each time though, he gets sucked back in, in a scene that we imagine will not be too dissimilar from the one in The Godfather III.
Kojima seems to have been slightly burdened by the tag of being known primarily for just one particular series, albeit one of the most critically acclaimed IPs in the history of the industry. Yet, he seems to want to diversify his portfolio and expand his reputation.
Kojima conceded, “I’ll admit that I hope my future endeavors are thought of as ‘works by Hideo Kojima’ rather than ‘from the creator of Metal Gear.”
The iconic developer has plans in his head, which he is hoping to share with the rest of the world as well. He continued, “I haven’t really shown the world what else I might be capable of yet.”
He finally laid it out for the world to hear, “This may sound pretentious, but I don’t like being thought of as ‘the Metal Gear guy.’ There’s a lot more I can do.”
However, when one thinks new IPs, Kojima wanted to clear the air on that front. The developer is more than grateful for the success he has seen with the Metal Gear series and that has opened up a host of new opportunities for him.
He was quoted as saying, “I’m often misinterpreted. I’ve always said that I want to work on original properties, but Metal Gear offers plenty of benefits. The Fox Engine, for example, took a lot of time and money; we were only able to develop it because it was intended for the next Metal Gear.”
Apparently, the world of Metal Gear is set to expand and grow and will form the roots of these mysterious new projects that Kojima is working on. He said, “In the next game, I’m introducing concepts intended for entirely new intellectual properties using the Metal Gear brand.”
At the same time, Kojima seems to be balancing both Metal Gear Solid 5’s development alongside Metal Gear Solid Zeroes. Not only that but Project Ogre is also rumoured to be at some stage of development as well. They may even end up being the same game knowing Kojima but for the time being he seems to be pulling a fair bit of attention towards himself and the Metal Gear series.
