Nariko from Heavenly Sword and Sir Daniel Fortesque from MediEvil, the PlayStation One classic are the latest characters to be revealed for the upcoming Sony party title.

Sony recently declared its intentions of catering to the casual and family market, which in its point of view has been neglected by game developers in recent years. The publisher announced a host of games to address the ‘issue’ by releasing LittleBigPlanet on the Vita as well announcing titles such as Tearaway, LittleBigPlanet Karting and PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale.

The latter has easily been the recipient of more attention and show time than the other games, mostly because it represents a number of new marketing ideas and concepts from Sony.

Firstly, the game is set to be the first ‘Cross Buy’ title to be released by the publisher. For those who may not know, Battle Royale is set for release on both the PlayStation 3 and the PlayStation Vita, and the Cross Buy feature means that gamers need to purchase the title on one console and it will be available for both.

At the same time, the game also represents one of the first ‘Cross Play’ games as well, which means that gamers who have the title on their Vita can play against those who own a PlayStation 3 console and vice versa.

Lastly, the game is set to tap into the party game market where Nintendo has enjoyed so much success without much competition. Many have labelled PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale as a carbon copy of Super Smash Bros., however, those claims have been softened as the gameplay is slightly different than that of its Nintendo counterpart.

The roster of characters for the game is one factor that has impressed many gamers as it has brought together some of the gaming world’s (read, ‘PlayStation brand’s’) most iconic characters.

Killzone’s Colonel Radec, God of War’s Kratos and Twisted Metal’s Sweet Tooth were some of the first characters to be announced before the likes of Uncharted’s Nathan Drake, LittleBigPlanet’s Sackboy and BioShock’s Big Daddy were also revealed.

That was not all as InFamous’s Cole, both good and evil, are set to feature in the game as well as Metal Gear’s Raiden, among other characters such as Sly Cooper, Jak and Daxter and Fat Princess.

Papo & Yo will also feature as well as many others, but the latest announcement was that of MediEvil’s Sir Daniel Fortesque and Heavenly Sword’s Nariko making their way to the game.

Whether or not Sony has a few more characters up their sleeve remains to be seen as they seem to be marketing their title similar to how Rocksteady did, with a steady stream of announcements and reveals.

We will have more character reveals and updates on the game as and when they happen.
