Koshi Nakanishi, the director of Resident Evil Revelations for the Nintendo 3DS, is excited by the prospect of bringing the long running series to the next-gen console and let the creative juices flow with the GamePad’s capabilities and features.
The Nintendo Wii U is set to be released later on this month and it already has an impressive looking launch line up with the likes of Assassin’s Creed 3, ZombiU and a host of other titles such as Batman: Arkham City and FIFA 13.
However, out of those titles only ZombiU represents a Wii U exclusive title designed specifically for the console, while most of the others are simply ports from other consoles that have been modified to take advantage of the Wii U’s GamePad.
There is no denying that the dual-screen concept opens up a number of avenues for new gaming experiences and one developer in particular is excited about having the chance to work on the console. That developer is Koshi Nakanishi, the man behind Resident Evil: Revelations.
He had plenty to share and began with how the Wii U would allow them to grow the series in terms of how players experience the Resident Evil titles. He said, “I feel it would let us create a very unique and fun Resident Evil game.”
Nakanishi continued, “The Wii U certainly looks like it will enable creators to come up with all kind of never-before-seen gameplay ideas.”
That was before he slyly suggested he was looking to work on the console and that too in order to bring a Resident Evil title on there. “There are lots of things I’d like to try out on it. If I was to work on a game for the Wii U, I would definitely want to make something that couldn’t be done on any other hardware.” Are you listening Capcom?
There was more as the director explained how they could go a step further than what they managed to achieve on the 3DS with Revelations.
“The GamePad’s separate screen enables so many possibilities, and playing on a television screen would enable sharing the experience in a way that wasn’t possible on Nintendo 3DS.”
Resident Evil 6, which was released barely a month ago, split fans of the series right down the middle. They argued that the series had lost its way and forgotten its survival-horror roots, however, Revelations was met with more positivity when it was released as many hailed it as a testament to what made the first few games so great.
Whether or not Nakanishi gets the opportunity to bring Resident Evil 6 on to the Wii U remains to be seen but one has to wonder what the future holds for the series.
