Amazon will be the only retailer offering the Tomb Raider: The Final Hour Edition of Square Enix’s upcoming game starring one of gaming’s most iconic characters, Lara Croft.

The PlayStation One saw a number of heroes emerge onto the gaming scene with the likes of the Tekken roster, Gabriel Logan of the Syphon Filter series, Chris Redfield and Leon Kennedy from the Resident Evil games and Crash Bandicoot.

However, arguably, the biggest star from those days has to be Lara Croft. The short-wearing, dual pistol wielding female protagonist who had an unquenchable thirst for adventure and a British accent, became the fancy of just about every gamer around at the time.

In recent years though, the much loved character has faded away from sight and the younger generation of gamers may not even know who she is on a first-name basis like many older games do.

All of that is set to change as Lara is set to make her comeback, albeit with her game having a number darker, grittier and grimmer tone. It also sees Lara get beaten up and down more than all her previous games combined.

There is a reason behind Lara stumbling around getting her behind handed to her by everything on the island as Tomb Raider explores her origins. This will be the first time she is faced with such a situation as well as the first time she has to kill anyone. There was plenty of controversy surrounding that particular scene as many were offended by the assault scene on Lara.

However, that controversy is story in itself and is one best left for another day. The big news surrounding the game today is the announcement of the first Special Edition for the game. It turns out that Amazon has snapped up exclusive rights to be the only retailer that will offer The Final Hours Edition.

This limited edition comes with a copy of the game, a “Hunter” skin, which helps camouflage Lara in mud, a 32-page art book and a copy of a behind the scenes documentary of the game, which can be redeemed on the Kindle Fire.

Square Enix was quick to also point out that this was the first of many other announcements regarding the game. A number of pre-order incentives are said to be in the pipeline and seeing how retailers all want something unique to offer one can expect a number of editions to be offered by the various outlets such as Best Buy, GameStop and many others.

But does the reader fancy The Final Hours edition or would they rather just buy a standard copy of the game? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below
