"Sleeping Dogs" Event

Square Enix gives everyone the low down on what they can expect with the upcoming DLC for their critically acclaimed title. The downloadable content features the undead, a criminal overlord returning from Hell and a bit of magic.

Sleeping Dogs was a surprise for everyone and in a good way. Not many expected the game to be as good as it was and although there is room for more polish and improvements, the game pushed all the right buttons as it combined GTA’s sandbox with Batman: Arkham City’s combat, all while establishing its own unique identity as well.

However, publishers are always looking to cash in on a successful title whenever possible and Square Enix seems to think that this Halloween is the perfect time to do so. Sony has their Halloween sale going and Square Enix has a Halloween themed DLC heading everyone’s way.

The DLC involves zombies by the city load, an evil criminal mastermind known as Smiley Cat and the game’s protagonist gets magical powers. The developers added plenty of back story to the upcoming expansion, especially in regards to the origins of Smiley Cat.

“In life, Big Scar Wi was one of Hong Kong’s most ruthless triad gangsters. Feared as much by those who stood against him as those who stood by him in Sun On Yee, it was decided by the Grand Dragon that he must be stopped.”

“Looking to send a message, they had him stabbed 42 times before feeding his bleeding corpse to the grinder at the Smiley Cat cat food plant… his final resting place, in the food bowls of the city’s pet cats.”

What does this have to do with the undead? Well, “it is said that if the wronged receive anything less than a proper burial, their spirit will almost certainly come back as a Hungry Ghost…. You turn him into cat food and that’s pretty much guaranteed.”

From then on Big Scar Wu was mocked in Hell where he was renamed Smiley Cat, as that is where he met his demise. However, his lust for vengeance saw him raise the army of the dead as he looked to exact his revenge on those who wronged him.

The player now has to unlock various magical abilities in order to save the city (Hong Kong) and will encounter most of the people he sent to Hell in the first place.

The gameplay will remain pretty much the same with the exception of the new magical abilities that the protagonist, Wei Shen, now has access to.

All in all, it sounds interesting enough but will it sell? It seems only time will give us the answer to that question, but let us know if you will be buying the DLC or not in the comments section below.
