Patrick Chen, Associate Product Marketing Manager at Sony Computer Entertainment America, revealed the latest bundle on offer, which comes with the console, Unit 13, a memory stick and subscription to the PlayStation Plus.
Sony seems to be really pushing their flailing PlayStation Vita console this holiday season as the Black Friday bundle offers have now been replaced with another bundle offer from the consumer electronics giant.
The Black Friday deals had Assassin’s Creed 3: Liberation, Call of Duty: Black Ops: Declassified and Lego Batman bundles on offer, each with a wi-fi console, a memory stick and a game. Sony recently revealed that it managed to sell over 160,000 units during the two days the deal was valid.
However, it now seems to be heading into the Christmas period with another bundle on offer, one that will appeal to a wider array of gamers who are not looking for a specific game but rather a more general experience.
The bundle comes with Wi-Fi and 3G PlayStation Vita, a 4GB memory stick, a digital copy of Unit 13 and a year’s subscription to PlayStation Plus.
The latter is perhaps the biggest attraction as it brings a plethora of free games with it including the likes of Gravity Rush, WipEout 2048 and Uncharted: Golden Abyss. At the same time the PS Plus account also grants players the PlayStation 3 equivalent as well meaning they have access to the premium subscription features on both consoles, including the free games and discounts.
‘How much is Sony asking for the lot?’ we hear you say. Well, the entire bundle is retailing at the same price as the Wi-Fi + 3G console at $300, making it an offer that many who do not yet own the console will surely consider, though going ahead with a purchase is another story altogether..
Sony has been struggling to sell as many Vita’s as they would have liked but there is a pattern of the console’s sales surging every time a triple-A game is released. It happened with Mortal Kombat, LittleBigPlanet and Assassin’s Creed 3: Liberation to name a few.
At the same time, the SCE has also released the Software Developer Kit for the console, allowing indie devs to develop and release their own games on the Vita should they chose to do so. As long as the developers pay $99 a year, they can publish as many titles as they please.
This has greatly opened up the potential and reach of the console and it will be interesting to see what games are released over the course of the next few months.
It seems that Sony is doing all that it can to ensure that the Vita is a success on the financial front as the company’s fortunes have not been the best in recent times.
