Release Date given, cover player competition announced and PlayStation Vita features teased as The Show is set for another year of leading the lines of Baseball simulation titles.

Tyler Vaught, the Sports Product Marketing Manager, has given fans of the MLB baseball simulation games plenty of information about the upcoming game while teasing a few features as well.

One question that always remains the most pertinent is the one regarding the cover star of the game. This time around, instead of picking a player themselves, the developers of the game are offering the players a chance to pick their own cover star or rather vote for them via the competition they are holding.

The player with the most votes will have his image on the cover of MLB 13 The Show. The competition is set to begin in January.

At the same time, Postseason Baseball will see an improvement with “an All-New Playoff Mode, which includes an in-stadium atmosphere that replicates the excitement and tension of October baseball.”

Another feature that aims at making the game more accessible for beginners or those who found the previous entries a bit daunting, is the Play Now mode, which along with the beginner mode and enhanced instructions should make understanding the sport, gameplay and controls easier. Or so they say.

Lastly, the cross-over feature between the Vita and PlayStation 3 from MLB 12 is making a return this time around with players able to transfer their progress on to Sony’s handheld platform and continuing their game on the road before transferring it back to the PlayStation 3.

“You can sync your Season, Franchise and Road to the Show saves between platforms to continue the action anywhere.” Explained Tyler Vaught.

The mode will also support online multiplayer as well on both the PlayStation 3 and the Vita, which makes one wonder why FIFA 13 doesn’t have the same feature.

However, the Marketing Manager did not touch on whether or not the game would come with the Cross-buy feature and any related incentives as well as the Cloud save feature as well. Those announcements will be made at a later time.

MLB 13 The Show is set to hit stores on the 5th of March, smack in the middle of the intense February to March release window when the likes of Crysis 3, Dead Space 3 and Tomb Raider are releasing and Grand Theft Auto V is rumoured to be released as well.

However, the game does cater to a completely different audience and should not be too affected by the other big names releasing around the same time.

It should also be pointed out that the game is exclusive to PlayStation consoles, including the PlayStation 3 and the PlayStation Vita.
