Part 4: Wishfree.com goes through the Vita’s roster of titles and pick out the five games that you absolutely must own in order to extract the maximum gaming pleasure that the console has to offer.
The PlayStation may not have an extensive library, with only a few titles on offer of each genre, but it does have a nice mix of titles. Not all of them are worthy of a purchase but one title that should not be overlooked is Lumines: Electronic Symphony.
The first Lumines title was released for the PlayStation Portable and remains one of the console’s defining games. Since then a number of iterations have popped up on PCs, iOS and Android devices, yet none has been able to replicate the immersion, excitement and satisfaction that the original did.
That is, until the release of Lumines: Electronic Symphony on the PlayStation Vita. Unique, fresh and the perfect fit for the console, the game is a gem of a title, not just for the Vita but among video games as a whole.
It is difficult to describe the game as anything other than a Tetris type puzzle game with the catchiest soundtrack in any game to date. Although PSNation hit the nail on the head when they described the feeling of the game as a whole,
“The amazing thing about Lumines games is how the movement and dropping of the blocks have sounds unique to each song that add to the beat and flavor of the mix so you get the feeling of not just listening to the music, but also making it, adding a new and unique experience every time you play.”
For those who have not played it or know what the above statement is on about, we recommend they download the demo off the PlayStation Store right now and give it a go. The game is instantly addictive and there are times when the player will just want to stop and admire everything that the game puts together on one screen.
The game was released in February of this year, so it is fairly new, and is one of the better titles on offer at the moment.
For a rich, vibrant puzzle experience where the visuals, audio and gameplay combine to deliver one complete package, Lumines stands out as the Vita’s number one must have title. Although Gravity Rush and WipEout 2048 will give it a run for its money.
What about the reader? Have you played the game yet? What did you think? Or are you hearing about it for the first time? In which case downloading the demo should be your number one priority.
