The upcoming Tomb Raider reboot is still a few months away from its release and yet gamers are already wondering if the game will be followed by a sequel.
Despite receiving an answer to their query already a few months back by a member of the developer team who said that the tale of a younger Lara Croft is too long to pack in one game, the future of the franchise is still pretty foggy.
It is for this reason that TEDx Transmedia put forward the same question in front of the upcoming game’s lead writer Rhianna Pratchett.
In all honesty and without dishing out more information than what the publisher and developers would have required, Pratchett said that she is only focused on the current project at the moment and has not really put in a lot of a thought into the future of the franchise.
She said,”it’s probably a bit too soon to say what I want to do with the franchise. I can’t really think further ahead than the current project.”
The lead writer did not deny the possibility of the Tomb Raider reboot being followed by a sequel, but only asserted that she did not have the future titles on her mind as she was only concentrating on the upcoming game.
Pratchett will be definitely under immense pressure after undertaking the task of re-writing Lara Croft, showing the side of the adventurer that has never been seen before. The franchise has a huge fan-base who are not expected to be very forgiving to anything that does not live up to their expectations.
Commenting on getting an opportunity to re-write one of the most celebrated video game female character, the lead writer conceded that the experience was “a wonderful opportunity to get my hands on the first lady of action gaming.”
The upcoming Tomb Raider game is taking a whole new approach towards the popular female character. While the gaming community has only seen her travelling the word, fearless and oozing with confidence, this time they will witness a young and naïve Croft learning the art of survival in the most demanding of situations through first-hand experience.
Crystal Dynamics has already made it clear that it is looking to overwhelm the Tomb Raider fans with an emotion as they present a compelling storyline and a vulnerable Croft.
It is indeed a bold step by the developer to reboot the popular franchise since expectations would be really high, making it hard to meet them, but so far the Crystal Dynamics team appears to be pretty confident and plan on following the upcoming game with sequels to continue unfolding the story of how Croft became a fearless kick-ass adventurer from a naïve young girl.
